Sponsor an Animal – Support a resident. Join our herd. Make a difference.

At Habitat Recovery Project, our animals are more than companions — they’re part of our ecosystem, education team, and healing community. From school visits to regenerative farm tours, each one plays a unique role in helping people reconnect with the land, themselves, and one another.

Now, you can become a monthly sponsor and directly support the food, shelter, and veterinary care these animals rely on — while honoring their incredible personalities and stories.

ADOPT BRUNO!

This Gray-eyed Goodboy just wants a family to love and be loved by in return. He was dropped at the farm as a puppy, and returned by no fault of his own. Great with kids, this Great Pyrenees x Pit Mix would be a perfect family protector.

UHTRED, THE KING

Uhtred – our livestock guardian dog and the gentle protector of the farm. He’s stood nose-to-nose with coyotes to keep the herd safe, but he’s just as quick to pull a drowning baby goat from the swamp or kiss a dying horse on the forehead. Uhtred has a sixth sense for life and loss—he quietly stands watch over birthing mommas and their newborns until we’ve greeted them ourselves. He even escorts children through the woods like a guardian angel on four legs. We’re pretty sure he’s the best dog that ever was. Without him, the rest of the animals would be lost. That’s why he’s first on this list.

WAFFLES

Waffles was thrown from a car at the end of our driveway — a cruel moment witnessed by a neighbor, and one we’ll never forget. He’s tiny, scrappy, and full of fire, but the second he curls into your lap, you’ll swear he’s praying for your healing. Waffles runs the show around here with soulful eyes, a swagger that says “I dare you”, and a habit of stealing hearts (and maybe girlfriends) wherever he goes. You might catch him climbing a tree or riding a paddle board if you come visit - he’s always down for an adventure.

MOO MONEY (a.k.a. ZAMIR)

Moo Money is our mischievous mini zebu bull with big toddler energy. He hops around like he’s on a sugar high, tries to act tough (spoiler: he’s not), and has absolutely no shame about licking his own boogers. When he's not causing harmless chaos, he's melting hearts with his joyfully bouncy spirit, smile, and unexpected sweetness.

ARMADA AND DON CABALLERO

Bold, regal, inseparable, and always ready to make an entrance, Armada and Caballero strut around the farm like they are leading a royal parade. With feathers that catch the sun and a gobble that echoes authority, they aren’t just turkeys, they are friendly patrolmen who are always willing to talk back to you if you Gobble at them to start a conversation.

MOMMA PEARL

Pearl is our beloved potbelly pig and proud new grandma — a gentle, snuffly soul who’s been with us through thick mud and tender moments. She spends her days napping in the shade, grunting softly to her grandpiglets, and reminding us that family, snacks, and belly rubs are what really matter.

NOAH

Noah – our big-hearted billy goat and total lover boy. He’ll lean in for scratches between his giant horns or a good stroke of his beard if you’ve got a hand to spare. Like most billy goats, he shows his affection with a good head-butt—so it’s best to admire him from over the fence. Noah’s best buddy is Moo Money the cow for that reason, and together they’re the farm’s most unlikely playmates. He also carries some serious bragging rights: his father was a 300-pound national champion goat! Now Noah is proudly carrying on the family legacy is the dad of all our Spring 2024 babies.

NOODLE, THE EMU!

Noodle, our sweet and silly emu with a heart full of curiosity. Noodle adores neck pets and has been known to break into full-on “emu zoomies”—running, spinning, and dancing until everyone around can’t help but smile. Kids especially love Noodle, who will happily accept their shoes as the best kind of toy. Always playful and always curious, Noodle brings laughter and joy wherever they go.

LAGATHA, VIKING QUEEN

Lagatha is one half of our livestock guardian team and a true Viking queen — brave, loyal, and always on patrol. She sleeps beside the goats unless she senses a camper family that needs protecting, and if you shout, “Where’s the hawk?!” she’ll scan the skies and chase off any would-be aerial invaders with the intensity of a four-legged warrior. She's not just a guardian — she’s the heartbeat of the pasture.

CALLIE, THE SENIOR RETIRED MARE

Callie is a statuesque Hanoverian mare — a retired jumper and broodmare with a heart as big as her stride. Now in her golden years, she lives with arthritis, but that doesn’t stop her from stealing hearts (and cookies). Sweet and sassy, Callie has a special gift: during maternity photoshoots, she lovingly kisses expectant bellies as if offering her blessing — a quiet reminder of her own legacy and mothering spirit. Callie let will let anyone climb up ontop of her, and is super safe, with ‘more woah than go’. There’s something special about giving care to a old horse, who has given their life in service for humans.

SAPPHIRE, THE PEACOCK

Sapphire is our glittering, curious, and slightly awkward peacock — a true farm icon with a talent for turning heads (and occasionally bumping into things if you accidentally startle him). Whether he’s inspecting a visiting dog, photobombing a picnic, or fanning his dazzling tail for a chicken audience, Sapphire brings magic, mischief, and a whole lot of heart to every day.

CHOMPY, RESIDENT ALLIGATOR

Chompy is a wild alligator who’s made our pond his home — a powerful reminder that on a working farm, the wild still weaves itself in. He doesn’t want scratches or selfies, and mostly minds his own business. Your sponsorship helps us maintain the pond as a healthy, balanced habitat where native species like Chompy can thrive undisturbed.

BARNEY

Barney – our barn cat with a job and a story. With so many animals on the farm, there’s always plenty of feed in the shed—and Barney makes sure the rats stay far away, keeping everyone safe and healthy. She first showed up when an RVer left her behind, but we struck a deal: if she stuck around and helped out with pest control, she could stay. She’s been holding up her end of the bargain ever since.

TUNA
Tuna
– our baby Saneen goat and the youngest in the herd. He’s sweet, he’s cute, and he’s 100% a Momma’s boy. You’ll usually find him glued to her side, but when he ventures out, it’s all wobbly legs and curious eyes. He’s got the kind of gentle spirit that makes you want to scoop him up and never let go.

DOODLE, THE EMU!

Noodle’s shy but equally lovable emu girlfriend. Doodle enjoys neck pets and the occasional zoomie dance, but she takes her time warming up. Once you’ve earned her trust, though, she makes the best giant feathery pillow—settling into the field for snuggles that feel like a rare and special gift. Gentle, curious, and quietly playful, Doodle reminds us that patience leads to the sweetest bonds.

LAYLA LAVEAU

Layla – our Catahoula Leopard Dog (the official state dog of Louisiana) and true Cajun Queen. She’s the OG of the farm, arriving in Alyssa’s life before her husband, before the land, before the dream even had roots. Layla paved the way for everything that followed. Fiercely loyal yet endlessly gentle, she claims every bunny, chick, and baby animal as her own—because in her eyes, they’re all her puppies.

ZEUS, THE WILD AZTECA

Zeus – our wild mustang with a story of resilience. Once captured out of the wild and mistreated, he was taken in by a loving owner who helped him heal and ultimately trusted our sanctuary to be his forever home. Though he can be shy at first, Zeus is a true gentleman—gentle in spirit, steady in heart, and a reminder of the strength it takes to find peace after hardship. He lives life free now, roaming the campground wherever he wishes and he even gets asked to give consent to be brushed, which he does by touching his nose to the grooming gear.

EMRALD, THE PEAHEN

Emerald – our peahen with a flair for surprise. Most of the time she’s quiet and graceful, blending into the background like a jewel in the trees… until suddenly she’s LOUD and lets the whole farm know she’s around. At night, she claims the rooftop of the house as her throne, keeping watch over everything below.

FERN

Fern – our bold little Kunekune pig with a big attitude. While most pigs are happy rooting around outside, Fern would much rather be indoors, rearranging stuffed animals into her perfect nest. She’s sassy, spoiled, and not afraid to let you know she’s the boss of cozy living. We refer to FERN and FIGGY as our “Louisiana Melting Pigs” because if you run their bellies, they will melt into the ground instantaneously.

GRANDMA SUGAR

Grandma Sugar is our wise Cashmere goat matriarch — a soft-hearted sage with a velvet coat and deep, soulful eyes. She carries the herd with grace, offering calm glances, quiet leadership, and the kind of comforting presence only a fun, slightly mystical grandma can bring. With a little sass and a lot of soul, Sugar is both the anchor and the aura of our pasture.

THE TWINS: JUNIPER AND JASPER

Jasper & Juniper – twin half-Cashmere, half-Saneen goats with a history as colorful as the California fields where they were born. They came into the world the very same week as Founder Alyssa’s son, suckling beside their momma Sugar in a field of orange poppies while Alyssa nursed her newborn nearby. When the family moved cross-country to Louisiana, Jasper and Juniper came too, forever entwined with the roots of HRP.

Jasper, Alyssa’s favorite goat, has grown into the herd patriarch. Gentle and steady, he even lets the human kids ride on his back and lovingly watches over both his aging mother Sugar and the rest of the herd.

Juniper has her own claim to fame—she’s the only goat on the farm to ever birth triplets, and she did it on Easter morning, no less. Together, Jasper and Juniper embody the heart of our goat family: resilient, nurturing, and always a little magical.

TYR

Tyr – our sleek old man black cat with striking green eyes that shine like the swamp grass. The newest resident of the farm, Tyr came to us through our HRP infrastructure manager, who entrusted him to the sanctuary when she was displaced. He’s settling in beautifully—easygoing with the other animals and most often found stretched out on the back porch, quietly watching the sunset as if keeping caring eyes over the whole farm.
