Louisiana SEED Alliance

Solar Energy Equitable Development

The Louisiana SEED (Solar Energy Equitable Development) Alliance aims to facilitate a renewable energy transition in Louisiana by leveraging federal investment and incentives. The project will focus on creating viable economic development opportunities and promoting solar energy adoption within the community.

The project is launching in 2024 after winning a grant from Healthy Gulf through their 2023 Resisting Dirty Energy Campaign funded by Bloomberg’s Beyond Petrochemicals Fund. It seeks to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, promote clean energy alternatives, and contribute to the overall sustainability of the community. By facilitating a transition to solar energy, the project will provide numerous benefits to the community, including job creation, economic development, reduced carbon emissions, energy cost savings for residents and businesses, and increased resiliency through PV Solar and battery-powered storage grids during natural disasters.

Alyssa Portaro, Program Director, has spent 8+ years working in solar development, aiding new companies in getting off the ground through facilitating financing partnerships and utilization of federal and state incentives amplifying the spread of residential and commercial solar electricity across the Northeastern United States. She has assisted NYC Department of Buildings testing their online permitting systems, worked in operations, sales, technical analysis, and consultancy in residential, commercial, and community-scale solar projects. She worked with Sunnova, SunRun, Solar Home US, Suntuity, and many other intrastate organizations - financiers, installation companies, and beyond.

Throughout the tenure of this project, we plan to partner with additional frontline organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working in the renewable energy and environmental sectors. These partnerships will strengthen our outreach efforts, enhance community engagement, and provide valuable expertise in implementing sustainable solutions.
